Sounds like a fair decision: getting a loan of a bike does seem stretching it for trail magic.

I guess Angus will be back next year to try to get the record officially.

Seems the correct decision but doesn’t seem fair to give him the ok (as it’s been suggested) and then go back on it. I suspect there’s a bit more to the story.
