Crawley, Sibley, Lawrence and Pope are unlikely to want to travel to Australia with no clear idea of how easily they will be able to leave or spend any time with their families.
I fear this Ashes tour is going to be a total shitshow (and not solely because England are in a mess).

The half time show is fucking insane.
Incredible innings considering Milne's bowling. Tahir is great. Really hope we get to see Moen and Livingstone come off!

What the fuck are we going to do when he decides to stop playing?
I don't know if it is logistically/administratively possible, but I'd be looking to find spots for Crawley, Sibley, Lawrence, and Pope in the Ranji Trophy/Sheffield Shield this winter, with the understanding that they could be recalled by England as emergency cover if necessary. Australia have done similar when touring here for the ashes, you'd hope it could be accommodated and the players, if serious about red-ball careers, would be up for it. This ashes, if it goes ahead at all, is no proving ground for players with suspect techniques/temperaments and I'd rather lean on Malan, Burns, Bairstow and Buttler for now. I also hope Stokes and Woakes will be fit/available/happy. I'd honestly rather Jason Roy comes back and tries to smash it than have to watch Sibley get dismantled again. Hameed has these India games to try to make a claim for a spot, but if he continues in the current vein I'd be asking Malan/Bairstow/Moeen to do it. They can't do any worse, and have the experience to handle it. Or at least handle it better.
