End grain boards don’t get cut up to the same extent. They’re easy to re-surface with a bit of sandpaper. The occasional wipe with linseed oil prevents absorption. Cheap boards are a false economy imho.

I've got a board that was made to flip over and cover the sink in my parents kitchen. Big crack down it for over a decade, but still hasn't split.
When I get a new kitchen I can design I'm definitely getting the thick professional kitchen boards.

I will get a thicker professional board as well, along with an end grain board. and palm off the odd boards that I have.
Some board options on eBay, can’t rely on quality so much though.

I think that site has an over inflated price, but they are not cheap!
Also need to make sure other family members don’t hack it to pieces with a bread knife….

New AliExpress cleaver:
Hezhen cleaver, which is a bit shorter a bit thinner, but a bit taller than the Shibazi F208-1 that I also have.
Supposedly a better steel core as well.

Ooof. That’s a beauty.
i think mine last about 16 years on average (guessing). The big end grain ones seem pretty much indestructible.
A couple of the side grain ones split where they were glued together after lots of years.
