Totally understand where you're coming from. Even the most tool-ish Rolexes twinkle with their white gold markers now.
What the Tudor does well is that really tool-y brushing and a very decent bracelet (especially at the price point). And they are well made. They have a solidity. It is certainly the best 1016 / 124270 / 116000 / 126000 alternative under 2.5k - I can't even think of another ~36mm steel sports watch on a (good) bracelet at that price. For me the Bell & Ross V1-92 matches it for toolish design, quality and finishing but it's 38.5mm and only on a strap.
The Milus Snow Star has the vintage vibe and is apparently very nicely made, but again, is 39mm and only available on a strap.

Rolex is not something you see in my social circles. Unless its buyers at the galleries I worked at as a technician. So the Tudor makes sense (and there is also a bit of a difference in price).
Yes, 116000 is perfection for me. But I want more explorer and less dress watch.
