Thanks for this reply, it saved me a lot of money. Ride with GPS did exactly what I wanted and I only got lost once (GPS seemed to completely freeze, but a restart seemed to resolve things). The route planning was very easy to use, and the ability to download these routes was great.
One thing to note is that I need to pay more attention to surfaces when building routes. Rocky farm tracks are quite a challenge on skinny road tyres...Time to buy a gravel bike, clearly.
Ride with GPS can do all of this BTW - well worth the basic subscription and it's monthly too in case you don't like it.
You can attach bluetooth HRM, speed sensors etc.
