I never played the original to be honest, I was only a nipper when it came out so it didn't stand a chance when placed alongside Super Mario Kart/World. Only really got interested in the series when a spiritual successor launched a few years ago. Worth checking out for the visuals/soundtrack alone (IMO):

I seem to remember the first Syndicate was just a rush to get the minigun, gauss gun and laser and then it was pretty much easy mode. Obviously memory is faint given I played it in 96 and 97 on floppy disc.
