If certain breeds of dog were self aware , I wonder if they'd consider all the spinal problems, arthritis, breathing difficulties and cancers in return for warmth and food worth it?

I wonder if dogs can smell or otherwise tell if a partner will have long term health. In reference to your words above, I mean in terms of the breeding that causes these problems; I wonder if given the choice they would breed with another of the same ilk or choose a partner with a healthier potential?

I didnt actually make a claim of self domestication about any animals in my posts.
I wasn't saying you did; I meant that while it challenges psg1ben's view of our relationship with dogs, I don't think it affects the debate here about horses.
I wonder if they'd consider all the spinal problems, arthritis, breathing difficulties and cancers in return for warmth and food worth it?
Almost all of which are quite recent phenomenon caused by modern dog breeders, with the shift from so many dog breeds being working breeds to purely domestic animals. Look at any painting of those breeds from the mid 19th century or earlier and you'll see dogs in healthy shapes, not today's caricatures.

I think the short answer is buy their music and go to their gigs.

I do both, but nowadays there is so much being released and not all of it is on a physical media. I often buy digital on bandcamp if it is someone I really like. I have to limit how much I buy each month on vinyl otherwise I will be bankrupt! I pretty much exclusively buy on bandcamp now. Some releases though I will only listen to on Spotify, if there was another platform that supported artists better I would switch.

They're dogs, they'll bang a soft toy if it's roughly the right shape.

And if anything like our dog, will bang his own mouth when nothing else is available.

Thinking if they were self aware, would they do the same as they currently do.
-
• #11765
Yeah, people are somewhat self aware and we've got robot sex dolls and an inbred ruling class.

Just had an email from work warning us about anti-vax'ers on NHS sites.
They are finding things like this stuck up on the building entrances.
Cunts...

“BBC Studioworks currently sublets two of its studios at Television Centre to ITV for the production of daytime programmes including Good Morning Britain and Lorraine.” According to The Independent .
Lorraine was heard shouting “come on you fuckers , I’ll take the fucking lot of you”at the protestors before diving into the crowd swinging a chair. -

Sunday Brunch has been filmed there for 2 years and it’s only now people start to kick up a fuss. Been a long time coming I’m sure you’ll all agree.
Aye, but it does put a different perspective on things to realise that humans were adapting an animal that was already adapting to live with them. None of which justifies abuse where it happens, but it means the historical relationship didn't start with us enslaving a free species against its will, nor was the relationship fundamentally abusive and exploitative. A social animal adapted to a different kind of social group.
