Aye, but it does put a different perspective on things to realise that humans were adapting an animal that was already adapting to live with them. None of which justifies abuse where it happens, but it means the historical relationship didn't start with us enslaving a free species against its will, nor was the relationship fundamentally abusive and exploitative.
