Tbh on a road bike they're set and forget for fifty years or so

The people who just buy a carradice and a bagman and ride it on the road for years without thinking about it don't normally post on the thread because there's nothing to report.
Most of the posts here are about trying to run the bags off road or on handlebars where they may or may not work.

Carradice is not a technology, it's a way of life.

My gf’s dad just popped round with this after we’ve gone through a whole what type of bike luggage do you actually need thing. Camper longflap with Super C buckles. They charged an extra fiver. For what might be the perfect Carradice?

I think the main gist of what I'm saying is... When it comes to Carradice... Just ask.

Camper longflap with Super C buckles
That looks superb -- it should be a standard option.

I bought an audax from @bjf that I believe they'd had custom made with fire hose replacing all of the leather parts.
Edit - here's part of the conversation we had about it - "I used them for years and became vegan. I gave them a bell 3/4 years ago and asked if they would make one for me replacing the leather with non animal alternatives. I think the only charged me a fiver more."

is it nice? what would you change?

They custom made a low-saddle long-flap for me in the super-c style (so plastic buckles and in black) with red fire-hose instead of leather for the patches and straps. Looks great and didn't cost me much extra over the prices on their website, although the prices on their website are normally a little higher than some shops. It was made by Emma.
IIRC it only took a week before it was delivered.

Yeah I like it a lot, if I was buying a brand new one I'd maybe go for a bigger model. It fits your lunch, phone, wallet etc and an extra layer but not much else. Depends what you want it for. You're welcome to have a look at it or borrow if for a while for a test drive if you'd like!

That is mega!

On the subject of stoppng the bounce and flop of saddlebags - I’ve been using the straps & buckles that are already on the front of the bag to secure it, along with the rear strap loop thing. Works on a bagman, works on a rack. No need for bungee or shoelaces.

Commuting more regularly with office attendance getting back to normal, it's nice to use my 6 years old Super C again... Carradice forever!

The white leather assumes a pretty low key appearance after a few years...
