So I went to b-ok to find the book then download it and use eboox to view. Seems to be working OK

I have realised that my two Kindle Fire 7"s are different generations (5 and 7).
The latter one is actually sort of usable.
I'm still going to pull it apart and install a cstom ROM on it. When I get the time.

My kindle fire (2014 ish) stopped working so quickly. After about 4 months the Kindle app wouldn't load anymore and would crash continually. They really are terrible.

Mine ended up with a totally unusable touchscreen.
They are so crap.
So very, very crap.

My paperwhite is great though.
And I can still use my old man's Kindle Keyboard 3g
(Although they turned off the free internet over 3g many years ago)

Current status of trying to custom ROM my two Fire tablets:
Newer, yellow, 7yh gen one: physically destroyed by over zealous levering of the heat shield, causing two small ICs to snap off from the circuit board. In the bin.
Older, pink, 5th gen one: bricked. Awaiting second attempt to hack boot loader.
Bloody stupid devices.

I’m really enjoying the fire. Id like to try the paperwhite just to compare

I’m trying to download my books (all 113 of them) from amazon. So I can start using calibre, as my book library. Anyone know a way that I can download all of them at once? Amazon will let me select all, but there’s no button to download them all.
Currently can only do them one at a time.. -

Just spotted Amazon have got the fancy coloured PaperWhite Kindles down to £69.99 at the moment for the 8GB version (black is £10 more).
Absolute bargain, imho.

Tempting. My old paper white is a bit slow and the waterproofing would be a nice feature.
Not sure if I fancy one with ads though.
-
• #1292
The ads are only on the lock screen rather than a random screensaver and mine has just recently changed and now it's just a black screen with a book title and no picture. Which is much neater. I see no reason at all for paying more to not look at the name of a book and instead have a screensaver

Apparently (haven’t tried it myself as mine was a gift), you can get Amazon support to remove them for free by getting in touch after purchase and saying it’s been bought for a child to use.
-
• #1294
I've read that too but they're really not intrusive so I haven't bothered
-
• #1295
I think it takes a bit extra extra to unlock as well doesn't it, not just pressing the power button

Fire toolbox?
Removes bloatware and you can install Google play (if you didn't sideload already)Not perfect but better than stock.

Edit: sorry, I didn't realise you meant fully rootimg/ jailbreaking it.
-
• #1298
Ah possibly. You push the button and then swipe the screen. Not sure if normally they're just push button unlock. I quite like it with the swipe anyway because it doesn't unlock in my bag etc that way

Any issues with moving books from old kindle to new kindle?
My current kindle is a bit old, takes a while to acknowledge finger inputs, but it’s still got a load of life left in it, but wouldn’t mind upgrading it, as long as it’s not too much of a faff to get the books I’ve brought and not yet read onto new device.. -

That's done seamlessly once you've connected your new kindle with your Amazon account.
And an old cracked screen Google tablet?
