  • Well, you said you could look out for a compact chainset, so you can also look out for subcompact. I said that based on the assumption that you’d be replacing the entire crankset and rings. If you have a clamp on front derailleur that you can move wherever you want on the frame (or a braze on with enough vertical adjustment), you can use whatever size rings you’d like.

    You don’t have to use Campagnolo cranks.

    And I wouldn’t recommend using 12 sp cranks with 11 sp everything else, unless it’s HO Potenza. The chain line will not be the same and shifting will never be as good as it could be.

  • I wasn’t being sassy in my response by the way! Appreciated your insight, and will look out for what comes up, in the meanwhile I’ll just keep pedalling squares when up in the Lake District :)

  • I know - nor was I - sorry if it came across that way. But yeah - I’m a big advocate of appropriate gearing and pedaling squares just ain’t it :-) nor is standing up an entire climb because you’re overgeared!
