  • Yes, on one of the roads between Snape and Orford.

  • "Buses will replace trains between Marks Tey and Colchester all day Saturday with connecting trains from Colchester to Clacton, Ipswich and Norwich."

    -(

    Upd. same on Sunday

  • ah balls, greater anglia can get to fuck

we'll go somewhere else instead I guess, if the weather plays ball. chilterns seem likely.

  • I can't make it on the next couple of weekends, sorry (getting the keys of our rented house next Sat, then a lot od DIY awaits me)

  • There seems to be train options, although complex and/or expensive.

Worst case there’s a bus between Colchester and Marks Tey, but it’s only 5 miles so doable by bike.

  • Guess that's me out :(

  • Bollocks

  • There are two options now for this weekend. Both are weather-dependent. Please read them and post here which you favour.

Option 1 - do the original route. Take the train out on Friday night to avoid the disruptions. Two nights camping. Train back on Sunday, ride the 5km diversion where they’re digging up the train tracks.

Option 2 - go to the Chiltern hills instead. Easy <1hr train from Marylebone. Ride two chilled woodland singletrack-y days with an autumnal deciduous wild camp in the middle.

    Thanks!

  • I've done 2 before, so I'd prefer 1, which I assume involves less gates

    Option 1.

    Option 2.

  • Weather for the week seems dry, no rain forecast for the weekend too.

On Friday we'd probably leave after 7pm to avoid rush hour? Promising sleeping spots in woods 5-8km en route.

    Option 1.

    Option 2.

  • You can't take a bike on a train leaving a London terminal before 7pm anyway.

I'm on the fence for option 1. I thought I'd take the weekend off after last weekend's audax extravaganza, but if the weather's dry... am I going to regret coming on a wide-but-slick-tyred fixed gear? Also I won't be bothered to take off the mudguards.

  • Unfortunately option 1 is no go for me, so it looks like I am going to skip this one.

  • Forecast is looking good for the weekend, so Option 1 it is!

    Should I be expecting @spotter @yakut @TvH and @cgg then? Good crew.
(c - there may be some muddy bits, but it's pretty sandy mostly and I think you should be ok)

  • No can do, alas. Have fun though!

  • That’s Sudbourne jumps

  • Great what's the plan for meeting and trains?

  • Camping in November beaver than me.

  • Provisionally the following trains.

However weather forecast has turned greatly for the worse today, Saturday looking like heavy rain all day, so we might not be able to go after all...

  • Let's give it until this evening to decide on weather!

First night camp will be near Butley/Orford
Second night camp will be near Southwold

  • aturday looking like heavy rain all day

    :(

  • The forecast is still terrible. RIDE CANCELLED.

I’ll be bouncing around Epping on Sunday, if anyone fancies joining.

  • Could well be up for this, let me see how my drinks go Saturday!

  • Is this going to start up again this year? I'm looking to get into some bike packing!

  • Just posted a new one :)

  • That Rendlesham forest bike park is now shut, ran past it today and it is beyond economical repair. Loads of fencing blocking it off, probably going around the whole thing.

    Sad face
