I'd be tempted by a Swarf
This, but they're about twice the price of a similar Cotic.
Also can believe you didn't suggest a nicolai!

I sort of mashed the stock wheels by casing the rear real hard, so it was time for new hoops and grippier tyres.
Loving it.

Transition Spur Deore
hmmm this looks nice, also completely out of stock but that's 2021 for you. Have built a long lead in time to this purchase for that exact reason, so maybe it will come back in time.

Nobody mentioned gearboxes

If going for steel, I'd also look at the Starling Murmur Trail

Heavy bikes are faster going downhill

Heavy bikes with Magura brakes are even faster!

Look at Ripley AF, Tallboy AF, and Bird. All in similar category to Spur.

Those are just the 4 bikes you've bought this week

I would never allow myself to ride an Alu bike. That's why I got them all in carbon.

Anyone fancy FoD on Friday? Or Windhill, they're both an hours drive from where I need to be first thing that morning.

That’s really nice! There are some very decent looking hard tails around at the moment. Look good for xc, natural trails, gravel etc. Tick for me

Bird
This is an interesting development, cheers

Prices in euros give me the fear of unspecified brexit import taxes

XC and techy climbing is what I do mostly. Then take the foot off the gas downhill to avoid that shoulder surgery they said I might have to get next time I deck it hard 😭
But I rode some stuff last Sunday that I very much walked before, and the rekon/ardent combo and 4 pot rear caliper helped a lot.
Proper slop fest for 45k, my gears sounded like crushing marbles in the end. The pic is post cleanup

There must be cheap flights to some obscure airport round there

Those are so nice but also a bit pricey, aren't they?

Probs.
The cheapest complete Cotic Flaremax is £4149 for some scale.

So €2,495 for frame alone and ca 4500 with shock forks dropper and headset is a bit more.
Was looking at them before, they look very nice, but no way could I ever justify that, unless I move to a hilly part of Europe and sell all the other bikes. -

There goes my commission

Having seen one, I'd be tempted by a Swarf
Then just choose whether you want shorter or longer travel
