I felt this way about FB so I deleted it a few years ago, never really missed it.
Did you watch 'The social dilemma'?? Its on Netflix -

mate I quit before it got its hooks into me. never EVER been on FB, or the others . was on IG for a few years and noticed it was insidious and taking much more than it gave( maybe like you're feeling).

If you delete the apps and only allow yourself to use the browser version, you get a better experience
Instagram for example has no reels, no adds and what feels like a better algorithm because of it on the web browser. So like old Instagram, if you curate your follows you will just get one type of content (I only use it for bikes)
You can’t see certain types of dm but it’s not really a big deal.
I have uninstalled all social media apps and just use the mobile browser if I want to use them, I mostly used them for dms so I just got more liberal with my phone number.
When I do want to post something (a vice of mine) I download the app and then delete it
But equally, one could simply hit the delete my account button
I did this to my Twitter, worked a treat, also did it to my eBay and wiggle accounts by giving the passwords to friends and telling them not to give them back no matter how much I asked on a Sunday night

I deleted Facebook about 10 years ago haven’t been on it since.
My dog has an Instagram. Which I obviously use but it’s very low interaction.
That’s it

Does that include quitting LFGSS? But I like it here...

I deleted farcebook about 8 years ago and haven't missed it at all. Working in media you are expected to have a social media presence, so I've an Instagram which is barely used, and a LinkedIn which is constantly ignored.
I had a Twitter which I got suspended from after calling Marjorie Taylor Greene a cunt.
I actually hate being slave to a smartphone and if the choice were mine I would be offline with no digital footprint -

Reckon If you’ve gotten this far in your rationale of it all, you’ve already made up your mind.
I left it all around 2010. I’m 34. I’ve yet to feel like I’m missing out on anything.
I watch YouTube videos for my interests, but comments are all switched off.
I don’t feel like I’ve ever been ‘out of the loop’.
I personally felt like there was no balance. Negatives outweighed the positives. -

Sacked off FB years ago, don’t miss it at all. Sacked off insta and occasionally popped back on, only to be reminded of how gross it made me feel. Makes me feel like I’m missing out/not doing enough, but I know it’s bullshit. Just makes me feel bad.
I have Twitter, which is absolutely poisonous, but it’s so obviously poisonous that I never engage with that side. I also don’t follow enough people to doom scroll too hard, as I run out of posts quickly enough.
I need to quit Reddit. Absolute time sink. The content is awful. The comments are awful.
I should probably just get rid of my smartphone tbh.
But I like this place <3

This is good info. I hadn't really thought of it before.
I've also contemplated deleting FB and IG.
I really don't gain anything from either. IG especially, I have tried to keep it to bike related content but do still find my self mindlessly scrolling sometimes.
I've deleted the app before only to download it again after a week or two.The only thing that stops me is I have a few friends who I chat to via FB messenger often. But it would be very easy to migrate that to WhatsApp.

I got rid of FB last year, gonna hang onto IG even tho' FB have done their very best to destroy all the good things about it... Don't interact with it as much as I used to, only use it in spurts...
I would love to get rid of lufuguss, that is my main BAD social media habit... I've made some REALLY good mates on here, and keep in touch with those elsewhere, but find the vibe these days so negative, same old boring know-it-alls (ON EVERY THREAD!!) point-scoring and shouting over everybody else, it's so fucking tedious... My ignore list just keeps getting longer and longer...
And yet I keep coming back... Not good...

Fb is a bit of a time sink for me and too many ads, didn't used to look at it much but now I check the neighbourhood group page almost daily. No desire to Twitter, no desire to Linked in. Lufguss is my constant click/refresh habit... can get a bit negative especially with some of the chat. I actually find insta mostly pretty wholesome - yeah ads and algorithm are annoying, but I genuinely enjoy seeing nice pics of what people are up to. I even check out the stories these days.

Spot on. I check insta “to keep up with friends” but leave feeling like I’m a lazy shit that’s missing out or struggle to keep up

And this. Very much.

Was all ready to leave FB last year, but a couple of niche software user groups are really handy. Those do have their own forums but they aren't as easy to use or as active. Also the free-ads have better pickings than Gumtree, and items shift faster, even though the UI and search is shite.

I deleted my Facebook account about 3 years ago after numerous attempts to reduce the time I wasted with it. Tough decision and I’ve lost touch with a handful of people as a result. Also lost access to some niche hobbies which no longer have forums and are now only on Facebook groups, mostly old car stuff. The hardest bit was waiting the 31 days for my account to actually delete. Once that was done, it was a lot easier. I do recommend it.
Luckily, I never ‘got’ Twitter so I’ve never used it. Agree with the above that it’s a toxic place. IG and Tik Tok are a bit after my time so I’ve never used them.

Sad but i agree, i've been thinking about how to express this in the 'i hate' thread for a while but writing on a forum is not my strong point. Other than IG which i rarely use this is the only social media i have but there's a lot of nastiness on here atm.

I’m simply making you a better troll
Just found myself stuck on instagrams reels. Again. Can’t stop scrolling. And I get literally zero back.
Feeling social media less and less. I get the occasional idea / inspiration for a photo or a blip from an old friend but mostly it’s just a wave of nonsense mixed with my own jealousy over everyone else’s curated feeds. Of course it’s just make believe but it still bugs me.
Anyone else feeling this? Anyone pulled the plug? I’m tempted.
Edit: couldn’t find a thread on this topic so feel free to point me in the right direction if there is one.
