Thinking about getting a bike after a 12 year absence. My bike history went
cg125
vfr400
diversion 600
vfr 750
vtr1000
st1100
gs1200so new bike need to increase in cc!
I've decided on an St1300 - anybody ridden one/owned one? I'm 51 so as much as I'd like to buy that 916 I always wanted its not going to happen
happy for alternative suggestions...

Not sarcasm, I really mean you have the advantage of youth so you can enjoy some crazy choices. I'm in the pipe and slippers stage so I get to offer sage advice which everyone is free to ignore :)

Kawasaki ZZR1400 might be worth looking at. A friend has one and loves it. Apparently it can go very very fast.
The Pan European is a great option though, kind of falls between the BMW RT and K. Both the BMWs are heavy and you notice it manoeuvring them when parking etc. especially with a pillion on board. The ST1300, RT and K are all bikes I would look at if I needed a comfy pillion seat.

Bye old friend! I think of all the GSXRs I’ve had, I’ll miss this one the most.

!
Why?
Surely you’ll regret it?

Not being serious just realised the increase in cc with every bike purchase

Possibly! But I have got 2. This poor old sort just gets left out to fade in the sunshine these days. Need something a bit less lairy for the occasional commute.

It has a steering damper, what do you think generally speaking, are they really needed? and when?

That exact model, Svartpilen 401 (the same as the Vitpilen 401 apart from semi knobbly tyres and risers rather than cafe style clip ons) Seems to get lots of praise on YouTube reviews.

On that bike, absolutely. Any bike with modern sport bike geometry and particularly those with explosive power will benefit. Honestly, dampers are cheap insurance against tank slappers.

Talk about money burning a hole…just bought this. Flatsides, Marchesinis, dry clutch, trellis, Ohlins. It’s a cool old thing. Goes alright too!

Nice catch, congrats.

It’s a heavily modded 900Ss/CR. And, yeah Deffo on the loud side.

@lowbrows They’re good bikes and pretty reliable. I had a 390 for a minute. My mate is just in the process of flogging this 430 - lovely original bike, not messed with.
