Funny enough I mentioned this over the weekend, and looked into it.
Apparently there needs to be an active participation in 75 countries (men's sports) or 40 countries (women's).

Doesn't explain why cunting about on a horse is in the Olympics (or even a fucking "sport" in the 1st place)
