When looking for advice found this great comment
I too didn't want to pay the exorbitant price for a proprietary White removal tool so i got a piece of scrap billet mild steel and a hand file and got to work making my own removal tool without needing to pay a cent. The tool could be made out of a longer section of billet so you can use its leverage like a spanner, or you can just stick the thing in a bench vise like i did and use the wheel for leverage. Easy as!
Makes me feel healthy

Is that because the axle sits off-centre, and the hole in the centre of the WI tool somehow allows for this?

Exactly this, I believe you can the. Clamp the Allen bolt to the tool in the same way you’d use the quick release/hub nut on a normal wheel

So tools other than the WI one will sit down onto the freewheel but the eccentric axle causes problems bolting the tool to the wheel?
Would a bmx freewheel tool maybe work since it'd have a larger hole in the centre to account for 14mm axles and the oversized hardware on them? You might need to use a large washer or something to be able to bolt it down.
FWIW, because I'm lazy, I'm sure I've circumvented the requirement to bolt the remover down by mounting it facing upwards in a vice and laying the wheel on top of it and pushing down as I rotate. It should still be bolted down really and not doing so will probably only work if the notches are in good shape but might get you sorted?

This is what I thought, but you have to remove the eccentric doo hicky and once that’s out there is an off center hole for a 4mm Allen key and the exposed bearing, I was hoping you could stick a big bolt in as you say
It’s not my wheel so I did not want to put my faith in any further bodged routes

This is reassuring, owner of said wheel is seeking out a long forgotten about vice at work for this approach, good to know it has a bike mechanics “bodge of honour”
So you can take a WI free wheel off with a normal park tool tool
But if it’s attached to a eno hub you’re apparently fucked???
Need this £50 tool???????
Pita Americans
Anyone have one SE, or has experience getting them off with the standard tool
Hub essentially means you can’t use the quick release to clamp the tool to the wheel while you hulk out.
Honestly hate any kind of proprietary tool
