Spinacci bars already had riders doing that until they were banned for safety.
But you're still basically proving my point - if swimming has breaststroke and butterfly and backstroke, all inferior to freestyle, why not have a whole separate "road bikes" category on the track? Why not race HPVs around the track and ditch those slow track bikes? We don't have 4000 categories of "riding around a track" because it's dumb.
Why did track lose the IP and yet swimming continues to have stupid events? It's not like they need the velodrome for other events during the games.

why not just ride the road race on a tt bike as they're clearly faster? why not have gears on the track as it's clearly faster? Sports are just a collection of arbitrary rules really
