  • It's simple enough to split it since it's only 2 bolts + removing the brake lever but I've only done it once in 5 years of ownership to fit it in a car.

I would not do it daily - it would be a bit like removing the roof box off your car every time you got back home. It's easy enough but you would get bored of it

  • Would some of those nice cable couplers from SJS Cycles make the splitting process a lot easier? Theoretically you’d need no tools.

  • The tool you need is just to unbolt where the steering column connects to the disc that pulls the steering cable. It's two small hex bolts. The actual joint between the frame halves are like a quick release number, at least on mine.

Edit: Oh yeah, and undo the brake lever for the front.

  • Thanks all, does sound a bit long, storage is an issue for me. See pic (umm... ignore the rope and it's a hedge trimmer, I'm not a serial killer)

Omnium question how comes people carry their kids facing backwards?

  • Omnium question how comes people carry their kids facing backwards?

Well, it's been done before. Here is the rearward facing child seat used on the Moulton AM, though in that case the child looked at the drivers to the rear of the rider...

My guess is that if the kid sat the other way, because the platform is higher, you'd hit their head when turning the bars?

Re storage, you might wanna borrow a bullit or similar and try. If the Yuba fits chances are the long John will.

  • Got drenched but carrying the omnium on the bullitt was surprisingly fine

    What colour did you get?

  • Galaxy black. Liked the blue but you gotta get what's in stock these days

  • Ahh everyone is gonna have the blue anyway. I haven't seen the Galaxy black in person. Sounds like a good neutral base to add whatever colours you want. And sticker.

  • I just read about the plan to discontinue the Classic versions of the Omnium cargo bikes in 2022, with the WiFi model being modified for a minimum tyre width of 40mm. What is it about the frame that would prevent narrower tyres being used, assuming the rims were suitable? I have been intrigued by some of the sportier builds of these bikes.

We've decided to discontinue the Classic Series as of 2022, in turn slightly tweaking the WiFi geometry to accommodate smaller tire options (for those who insist). The WiFi is still optimized for 55mm tires, but will now be able to run a minimum of 40mm rubber, so everyone can play along ✌

  • Only thing I can think of is the BB height

  • They have very low bottom brackets on the classic, so I assume the WiFi has a bigger drop to achieve the same height with bigger tyres. If you then run smaller tyres you'll be clipping pedals all over the place.
    That would be my assumption.

Okay --- that makes sense now.

  • Going to try to combine Jagwire quick connect adapter kit with hope braided hoses for the Magura brakes. If that works, I might have the Omnium rolling next week. Initially with the 10 speed from my MTB

  • Jagwire quick connect adapter kit with hope braided hoses

    why

  • Because nobody answered me about whether the hope connectors would fit, and Jagwire sell a kit for 5mm hose to fit both ends. I'm assuming it will work with the hope hose and takes out the guesswork on my part about which bits I need

  • What was your question?

  • Doesnae matter now because I've spent my pennies!

  • i will pray 4 u

  • Worst case scenario I just use the Sram brakes I have which I should have just used anyway but there's something about trying to make Maguras work. I get it now.
