• What a lovely transformation!

My garden is far, far worse. We're talking chest height weeds completely filling a relatively small plot. I'm also renting so I don't want to invest too much in the garden - I'm mainly looking for advice on suppressing weeds.

Would buying a pitchfork and turning all the soil do anything? It's quite hot at the moment so I thought it might be good to expose the roots of all the weeds.

  • The brambles down the back half were solid and over 6' high and that was an area about 30' x 20'. There was ivy across every square inch, even the bits that look clear. Ultimately, if you want to suppress them, you will need to pull them out by the root and get as much of that root out as possible. It still won't be 100% and you will have a persistent (albeit lighter) struggle with what keeps coming back.

I just inched my way down the garden, pulling as much up as I could as I went. We didn't even know that path existed when we bought the place. But it was a handy marker; "I cleared two slabs' worth today" etc.
