Chopping wood require a strong back. Lumbar support is advised.

Btw, to own an ax it’s cool, also great for decoration.

You know my back is fucked... 👴🤣
A mate is grabbing me a tree stump, can't chop wood without a tree stump, right?
-
• #3980
I got one of the Stihl splitting mauls I think - about ÂŁ40
-
• #3981
Any kind of strong base would do, but if mate brings you a tree stump is even cooler, and if after a couple of chops your back say not cool then you can leave the axe planted in the stump and sell it as a top notch hipster shit.

If you're going to potentially be using a wooden mallet on the back, make sure you get one with the right head.
-
• #3983
Right, that’s another way of do it. You keep with your left hand the ax on the wood and with your right hand you hammer the mallet on the ax, what kind of right mallet for this kind of job would be best suitable? I also guess that if you’re not exactly inclined to manual work that it may result a bit tricky.

It's useful for bigger logs if you've not got a bigger proper wood splitting axe and the hatchet isn't getting through. Or If you want an accurate cut and you're not accurate swinging. Wooden mallet, or a big log also works.
Not sure the specifics, bit my fancy hultafors specifically says not to, whilst my cheap one has a reinforced 'back' and works nicely. It's definitely more wedgy in shape than the nice one, which is very thin. But then i use it mostly for shaping and carving than splitting.

Think I've found the tool for the job, Husqvarna small splitting axe... This and a mallet should take care of any log... Thanks for all the advice, people... Now to shop around for a chopping axe/hatchet!

Husqvarna does great motocross motorbikes, you may want to check that too, you can ride it in the woods for collecting the wood that later you will chop. Plus a lot more shopping.

Husqvarna make chain saws...

Great, a total tool kit for lumberjack then.

And sewing machines if you tear your check shirt (I think the company actually split into different divisions years ago).
Not as pretty but Fiskars axes are good and can be found cheap.

Get the estwing fireside friend. There is a pretty version with a natural handle or the blue rubberised handle version.

We have a full collection of chainsaws and axes. I use stihl my wife husqvarna chainsaws. We also have his and hers splitting axes, kindling axes etc different weights/lengths as it’s very much personal choice and comfort.

I've got a Fiskar weed puller, was using it today actually... I'm happy with that Husqvarna, pulled the trigger...

Has this been mentioned before...and in the golf club thread ;)

Also a point to take the piss out of you friend on a husqvarna motorbike....even tho the bike company are austrian and the other bits of the company are still swedish.

Not really sure what conservation and woodland management has to do with golf.
The stihl vs husqvarna debate is like shimano vs campy. One side is correct, the other idiots, and husky have the clutch on the wrong side for maintenance purposes.

The golf club comment is me poking fun at you due to each partner having their own chainsaws, splitting axes etc.
Is it not the glof club thread style to mention that the comment will be going off to the golf bat thread

Works great, I've already chipped the blade on concrete tho'... Knob!! Will get a stone on the edge over the weekend, wouldn't have happened if I'd had a tree stump to chop on instead of another log... 🤣

I wouldn’t worry too much about the chip, getting more practice with your hands seems to be the priority to take in consideration. Use a masculine mind. In other words: it ain’t Ken brushing Barbie’s hair.

You can f*ck right off with your sexist comments.

Made an overstrike guard out of an old piece of leather, not super thick but better than nothing... Great axe!
