  • How long are people finding PCR test results take to come through? Son had a test on Saturday, still waiting for the result today.

Home PCR test ordered Friday afternoon 5pm, delivered Saturday morning 9am, posted completed tests 10am Saturday morning, results by email/text 10pm Sunday.

Self isolating as we did lateral flow tests on Friday prior to a family party (including some 80 year olds) and daughter's came back positive, hence the PCR confirmation. Her PCR was positive and I'm negative. Looks like they've lost Mrs GB's test as she hasn't got a result and has an email reminding her to send it in. We posted all three at once so I guess something has gone awry or hers is being processed in a separate batch, or I entered the wrong barcode numbers - don't expect it to be anything other than negative and doesn't change much if it wasn't, we're still all isolating for 10 days.

She's annoyed she'll miss the last week of school (including the plays/concerts and leavers party as she is Y6) plus some family things we had planned for this weekend, but needs must.

No symptoms amongst any of us so it's all a little bit boring.

  • Sorry to hear about your daughter's positive test. Did she have no symptoms?

We did the test at a drive through testing site. They scanned the QR code on the phone and the bar code on the test, so I don't see how their could be any issue, but wondering if we forgot to do anything?

Also, is there a way to look up test results / processing status just by the bar code, or do you have to wait for a text / email?

  • No symptoms at all. If we hadn't been doing the lateral flow tests we wouldn't have known at all (until we would have been contacted due to other cases in her school/class). If anything it's good as it means our isolation has started (and therefore ends) sooner.

Can't see how you can trace your processing, the guidance on the web says to ring a number if you haven't heard back after 6 days of doing the test, that' it.

  • Fingers crossed the symptom free isolation continues.

Just back from doing the shopping at Morrison’s Stratford and it was good to see most people still wearing masks, it was quite heartening, I’m hoping it lasts.

  • On masks...

Edit to add.. Not going to delete the above.. But it looks like bullshit! Apologies for the misinformation. Still sceptical about masks but the above link looks like Freedom day propaganda.

Edit again to remove social media scraper (thanks @mmccarthy)

  • Wife's (negative) PCR test result just came in, 14h delay from mine and my daughter's results. Most likely explanation is that it was done in a separate batch to ours.

  • Just looking at the query params in that URL, I assume linked to this software company:

Echobox helps publishers increase traffic by 'intelligently' posting articles on social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter.

That seems like an oddly transparent company name for a company presumably profiting from spreading click-bait articles around social media hubs.

  • If anything it's good as it means our isolation has started (and therefore ends) sooner.

I don't know what the actual process is here - but I'd advise doing at least some lateral flows on yourself at some point during the next few days.

Our whole house went down, and it can be very tricky to work out when each of the 10 days start. We had youngest first - cold symptoms - negative lateral flow - positive PCR. Same day I got a negative PCR.

Two days later, eldest had positive PCR (no symptoms). Partner tested negative.

One day later - eldest shows symptoms, plus that evening my symptoms started. I didn't get tested as we knew what it was!
Another day later - partners symptoms started. She didnt get tested either. The house was so full of germ the thought of leaving seemed mad - in hind sight should have got some postal tests - but we were not really thinking particularly straight - the loss of smell and kids positive tests meant we knew 100% what we had.

8 days later with everyone feeling much better we did some LFTs. All negative bar my partner who had a very faint line. Next day - she still had a faint line. Yesterday - finally all clear and I think the full days had passed since her first symptoms. It's almost impossible to keep track when the whole house is variously going down with stuff and feeling rough for various other interconnected reasons (stress / disturbed sleep etc.)

We finally all went out together yesterday for the first time in about 20 days (eldest had already been self isolating from a positive at school when this all kicked off). Still stuck to a quiet wood rather than anywhere busy to be on the extra safe side.

To add to the fun, a few days earlier we had a visit from the ONS study people - both our tests unsurprisingly came back positive so we've been fielding lots of calls from test and trace and the local council people all trying to explain how our isolation has ended and that we were tested as part of the community testing process. As you can get a positive PCR for a number of weeks after infection, our positive test should have no effect.

Also, my partner is fully double jabbed (got the rona about 20 days after second jab). I've had just the one jab. We both had very similar experiences symptoms wise. A really bad cold for 4 days or so and then feeling like an extended slowly improving hangover - this is still ongoing but I'm nearly back to 100% now.

  • Is it the new look how famous stars of the 80s look now click bait...

  • Interesting, but no symptoms here at all for any of us (3 days since the first positive test). Wife and I are both double jabbed with second dose at least 2 weeks away, plus our PCR tests came back negative too, so we're just along for the 10 day ride so far.

Obviously doesn't mean we won't go on to present symptoms and/or get it enough to cause a subsequent positive PCR but I'd be surprised if we do.

Our next ONS test is in a week or so, which may be interesting as one of us testing positive would trigger further isolation as neither of us adults has had a positive test so far (of any kind). Anyway, we'll deal with that if/when it happens.

  • Just got a negative result back for my son. Older one now happily back at school.

  • Getting some Mythbusters vibe from that, no bad thing either!

  • There is FIRE! with Mythbusters.

    Watch to the end...

  • On masks...

Saw someone on about this on some kind of comment section yesterday, obviously read that as it mentioned marbles and scaffolding. I didn't engage as it was a PT arguing with a (not virology) doctor and would've been pointless. I would've questioned it though based on the fact that the virus is supposedly transported via water droplets, which masks are meant to, if not prevent, then at least disrupt a bit, no idea if the virus is just breathed about without that and whether it would hang in the air in a similar way.

  • Yeah - if you're symptomless its about trying to make sure you don't start 10 more days isolation in 8 days time!

As we had symptoms it felt easier to control / manage the 10 day thing without the complication of positive tests on random days during the ordeal. We didnt want to cheat the system, but at the same time with two young kids who were very much recovered by the time we were getting to the end of our isolation, extra days inside were good to avoid.

  • Once again, feels like a 3 day isolate is a bit pointless. Even with lf tests and the beginning and end of the three days.

  • If you were wondering there has been absolutely no change to infection control, mask wearing and social distancing requirements in healthcare settings including offices etc.

  • My original 2nd jab was booked for Fri 13th Aug, got a text today saying you can rebook for an earlier appt so it's now this Friday. Quite pleased to be more protected sooner given the way things are going.

  • Strange to see a higher % of people wearing masks in Lidl today compared to the last 6-months.

    #anecdata

  • but how is it compared to other London boroughs?

  • Less than 1% are what - double vaccinated? But nationally is only 25% higher? That seems surprisingly low.

  • it doesn't look like it stands out massively from other areas in London
