WTD Rigid 26" MTB Forks

Posted on
  • Hi,

I'm looking for some forks for a 1990? GT Karakoram K2.

    Requirements are:

    • 26"

    • 1 1/8" Steerer

    • Canti bosses

    • Curved

    • eyelets

Ideally I'm after black, but would consider any. I'm thinking Threadless at the moment because 1 1/8 quill stems are either a) fugly or b) £££.

Would consider threaded if anyone has suggestions for quill stems that aren't either of the above

Things are pretty thin on the ground in eBay and elsewhere online so thought I'd ask here.

    Thanks

  • Hiya, I think I might have something to fit your requirements, just need to check if they have eyelets cos I can’t remember. Came with a 90s mtb frame but not original to that, never used them. IIRC they’re fairly nicely assembled.

Can dig them out tomorrow night and decide what I might want for them.Remind me with an @Skülly tag if you hear nothing tomorrow evening? By all means accept another offer if you want in between now and then, no biggie.

  • P-clips are always
    an option I suppose for
    forks without eyelets

    Haiku was unintentional!

  • Cool I’ll take a pic etc Monday night

  • Double posting...
I have a pair of GT forks (188mm steerer) in red...
    canti bosses - check
    mud guard eyelets - check
    chipped paint work - check
    curved - checked
    Pics available - check

  • I have a fr0k!

    Akisu manufactured.
Lacquered raw steel (you are definitely going to want to paint or powdercoat it).
    Curved.
    Eyelets for fenders.
    Canti/V-brake posts.
    26”
1 1/8 steerer (which is something north of 230mm)

    TEN QUID COLLECTED FROM N19?

  • *flint, model’s own

  • I'm in York so probably not!

  • Might be too far. I can wait in most days.
    (GLWSearch)

  • @Skülly any joy?

  • Hey!
    Yep …
    Standardish rake, 45-50mm ish
    Axle-crown c. 390mm - for old school rigid geos
Steerer 177mm, came with a frame with 110mm head tube so I guess ran with a bit of stack, would fit a head tube up to nearer 140mm I guess.

    Posted, £45?

  • Ah, just seen some offered ^^ for £15! Hah.

  • I can't quite make out the lettering on the dropout...any ideas?

  • SPIDDER, looks like someone in Taiwan was a goth

  • £15? Vilms for a tenner but I can't collect. Am I missing something?

  • Hah no, have no idea what mtb stuff is worth.

  • He dropped it from £15!

  • tbh I can’t be arsed for £10. May as well keep and use one day. There seem to be things on ebay for £20-25

  • Mine’s cheap because I have moved and could do with losing some stuff that I’ll probably never get around to using /plus/ it needs a proper paint job at some point.

That Spinner is a ‘better’ fork IMO.

Here’s a comparison of a Spinner (from a Marin BVSE) and the Akisu (from a Raleigh Dynatech STX).
Roughly the same dimensions - Spinner is 900g, Akisu is over a kilo.

  • Ah, Spinner. Thanks.
Soz for being a div chickenbones. Seems there’s plenty if stuff on ebay / bikester etc for sub £30

  • Spinner? Good forks those, early Taiwanese, they made forks for Klein. I just went through this steerer length stuff, thinking 190mm would be ok with 130mm head tube. I'm only left over with 30mm for the stem which is not enough for anything except a machined BMX stem (everything else is around 40mm). Headset has about 30mm stack.

    Edit: late to the party

  • Thanks Alban, so actually the frame I got with them (110 ht) aint far off
