Thanks. I’m not shocked by rack mounts failing on a carbon frame. I’ve always been quite dubious about that feature. So not too concerned about that.
Did you document the build/process?

Could use straps w/ cages instead.
If the fork is a warranty anyway it's not like you care about the paint now :) -

I posted some bits in here and on the Chinese Carbon thread. No build thread though.

Depends on the guards I guess. I have 45mm tyres on there with plenty of clearance, I think they claim 50mm on 700c which seems accurate based on the clearance I have now.
My fairlight comfortably fitted 28mm with guards and 32mm without, so based on that, 45mm with guards might be possible?
Edit, not great pic, but here is the clearance at the bridge with 45mm tyres

I seem to recall posting my Sibbo in here earlier but as the threadtitle changes everytime I log on I'm not sure anymore. Anyway, plenty of new stuff and more oriented towards long hauls and smoother roads than the gnarliest of grav.
And then something more threadtitle appropriate.

No gravel in Staines,
no really, we went over the Thames looking for the stone referenced in this:
https://alondoninheritance.com/the-thames/crow-stone-london-stone-estuary-airport/This was about 60-70 m of gravel that ends in the fence of Staines Boat Club.

Knees are knackered, need some gears. No idea what I'm looking for and I'm actually not too bothered. So I'm asking this thread the ultimate question - should I just get an Arkose?
-

should I just get an Arkose?
2021 edition is.. just get whatever you can get.
Seeing as Ribble are suggesting March 2022 for the CGR al and Evans have some Pinnacles in, easy decision.

So, mum wants a new bike. She goes on tons of bike tours, and her use case 100% fits gravel/bikepacking. BUT she doesnt like drop bars, and wants a "ladies bike" with a low step-over frame. Not a huge budget, but want to build her something light and reliable that gets her streetcred :D
If I can convince her of a normal step over height, then an older alu cyclocross frame with a flat bar would work, otherwise what do you guys think of a hardtail MTB frame with a carbon rigid fork (with correct stack height)?
...or should I just get her an arkose?
-
• #20145
Get her what she want (Soma sell an excellent disc step-thru frames), or a MTB-converted flat bar gravel bike that enable a low standover height.
It sound like you already figure it out; an rigid MTB is the best option, fork doesn't need to be carbon as they're £££, a good steel one work wonder.
Basically this?

Yes, something along these lines! Never really rode one of these MTB gravel conversions, but they look fun.
Ill look into the Soma frames, thanks for the tip. -

Nice one for the info. Will definitely take a closer look at the Arkose. Seems a really great price for the components!
Would a Wald basket fit on the front of it?
I have my fairlight fork and the actual fork seems fine, just the inserts have come loose. But ideally I would have the cargo cages for Badlands at the start of Sept.
