  • Jaffa has been eating all day but subdued and with a limp, I've cleaned the small cut on his rear paw which is his only visible injury. I assume he may have sprained this paw hence the limp.

I don't know what else to do for the guy but he looks so sorry for himself

Fabric used to be a scrapper in his early days. Keep an eye out for an abscess forming. Cat bites are putrid and nasty and only take 24 hours or so to flare up.

All you can do is keep the wound clean as much as possible. I'd recommend washing it with salt water twice a day. It'll probably heal fine by itself but keep an eye out for the limp worsening.

Your experience reminded me of what it was like the first time Fabric got an abscess from a fight. At the end of the day they're pretty minor injuries but super painful. I was a new cat owner and worried out of my mind when Fabric couldn't put any weight on his foot at all. I didn't have much cash those days and was worried sick that I'd not be able to afford the vet bill . Happened on a Friday evening too so emergency vet would have been the only option.

As it happened, his abscess burst on my pillow on the Sunday night, filling my bedroom with a rotting pus smell. Healed up pretty well with salt water cleaning after that. Took him to the vet anyway for my peace of mind more than anything.

  • If that happens Nicola will NEVER get over it hahaha!

I have some vet issued wound cleaner from last round so I've used that so I hope it works.

  • I'm sure it'll be fine. While cats have nasty mouths they also have good immune systems set up for those pathogens so I'm sure it's only a minority of bites that turn nasty!

Nasty is the right word for sure...
