  • About 30 years ago me and a mate used to do a (Cambridgeshire) hilly 30 mile circuit without saddles/seatposts every fortnight or so.

Ah, something else in this thread that makes me say "what?" as I'm reading it. 😆

  • you are correct. I assumed by the line on the map and didnt check the actual route. Think id rather go over dartmoor than through Holsworthy / Hatherleigh / Tiverton. But hay ho.

  • @jakemcree go well mate!

If you pick this up in time, do you know any other forummers riding? And if so, race numbers?

Say hi to Jack (Albion, also riding) if he’s handing out packs this morning.

  • Pan Celtic starting soon, Italy Divide started yesterday.

  • Backing Angus Young for Pan Celtic.

  • Thought I'd say cheers remotely to a few of the racers on Pan Celtic Race -

If you hear of anyone finding one, please point them in my direction - or tag me in on IG - and I'll get a backpack or musette to them once the dust settles.

  • Angus Young just passing over Severn Crossing into Chepstow > Newport/Wales, w/halfway point not far after.

Looked like the first leg around Cornwall was made a lot tougher/unpleasant with the wind, rain and cold. Field is spread over a huge distance on the road, and with weather all over the place too.

  • Angus maintained quite a lead in Pan Celtic:

  • Some great photography on Pan Celtic Race instagram and stories; https://www.instagram.com/pancelticraceseries/

  • He's on a Highway to Hell?

  • gotta be one of the best names in Ultracycling.

  • It's just a shame Mason haven't sorted him a special school uniform skinsuit or something

  • Wehay, on here @jakemcree approaching finishline of Pan Celtic. Solid ride! Coverage of the event has been amazing, great stories and photography from the way.

  • Congrats - really inspiring, definitely interested to apply for next edition. Say cheers to Jack (Howker) at the party - looks like he’ll get in tonight/early hours morning if all goes to plan(!)

  • Cool, will do.

Ps. Burner was great. Used it every day.

  • Can I get some practical advice for the prevention and cure of saddle sores? types of plasters to use to strap yourself up, lotions and potions, whatever tips you have got?

My friend is signed up for Trans Pyrenees and it's her first ultra, she's been doing lots of long days of training but it's the saddle sores making her think twice about the event.

She's been through lots of saddle trial and error but as we all know the saddle sores get lots of people eventually!

    Thanks in advance.

  • Don't be fat. Keep clean (wash or sanitiser at toilet stops), two pairs of shorts to wash and alternate, never stay in dirty knicks if you can avoid it, sleep in hotels where you can properly wash, if you can't sleep in hotels have a pair of non-cycling airy shorts to sleep in. Some people like to use Sudocreme type stuff for healing at night.

Accept that it will happen and suffer through it by making light of the fact you're sit bones have been bleeding for two days and your shorts are stuck to them. (this is me in all races now having tried everything above)

  • does slapping on chamo butter regularly not work?

  • Oh, do a bit of out of the saddle pedaling. 30 seconds each time you stand up is what you need to get blood flowing to the area. Adjust saddle and bars to take some pressure off arse.

  • Cleanliness!
I’d suggest changing shorts on very hot days and wet days. Finding chamois cream and post riding cream that suits you.
Bike fit, might not be the saddle per se.

I’m sure there are women specific groups that might be a better source too.

  • Not if it's pressure related or not if you don't clean often as well. It's like adding chain lube to a sandy (in this case salty from sweat) chain.

  • I’m sure there are women specific groups that might be a better source too.

There's literally a book about it (mostly for women). I bought it for my missus.

It's called "Saddle, Sore." by Molly Hurford.

  • I’m just grateful it’s not something that’s ever been a big issue for me.

  • Don't be fat

Is this do as I say not as I do advice? (Jokes)

Thanks so much I know you're the king of saddle sores.
