I've a mountain equipment helium 3.8 which is a medium/pale green colour. Could be worth a look. I side sleep in real beds, can't recall how I've slept on the mat though unfortunately

Have a look at the alpkit stuff most of it is muted green and greys, cant speak for any of their insulated pads (they dont do any specific winter ones), but i use their cloud base which is 5cm thick but not insulated. I absolutely love it and its great for side sleeping. Also kudos to alpkit to being a nice sustainable and environmentally friendly brand

Alpkit have some muted ones- I can vouch for the cloudbase being comfortable enough for side sleeping and very grey.

Ah lovely, thank you all for the (quick) responses! Will take a look at all the above - the Mountain Equipment one looks especially promising

Not to be a downer, but we weren't that impressed with the Helium's (I had the thinner of the two, partner had the thicker) and we swiftly replaced them with exped ones. We are both side sleepers and would get sore/cold hips and shoulders.
IIRC the down insulated ones are grey.

the sea to summit etherlight xt are grey and are said to be the most comfortable pad for side sleepers.

Could you use an eye mask or do the issues happen before you reach sleeping point, ie. setup?
I think my Alpkit one is mostly grey.

anyone interested in an Exped Airmat UL lite? Doesn't work well for me as a side sleeper unfortunately.
I also have a Rab Alpline bivi which I'm considering selling if anyone is interested.
As a duo, it makes for a pretty damn small and light sleeping system. Add a light down sleeping bag and the packsize is really quite small.
edit - both SOLD

I’m not looking for a weight weenie setup, but definitely don’t want a lead weigh either. will be packing it in my Carradice, so around 10 litre pack size, then I still have a nice amount of space left.
Looking at ordering this https://www.decathlon.co.uk/p/trekking-mummy-sleeping-bag-trek-900-0-c-feather-down-red-grey/_/R-p-309272?mc=8575975&c=GREY
Anything else that competes for the price? Down to 0* will be nice, as I can always unzip to cool down.

Something 2nd hand on ebay

Definitely would get something better value 2nd hand, just struggling with the extensive amount of bags available at what to look for.

Overland Archive had a bit of a chat about tarps that got me kinda interested in trying one (or two) out, since we still don't have a tent yet. https://www.spreaker.com/user/12049863/ep27

Looks good! Was sorta looking to spend more around the 150 mark or less, I know I probably won’t be getting the best value here, but I won’t be using the bag all too regularly so the upmost comfort isn’t a huge requirement. New would be a nice option as I could klarna it.

A couple pages back I had a list of vaguely reputably brands to look for on ebay. I was trying to keep the price around a hundred so you might have luck with it. But otherwise the general consensus of this thread is that no, you won't find anything that competes with Decathlon for value for money

I was following that list and looked up quite a few off of it! Very useful. You might be right though in regards to the decathlon ones new.

My mate is going to lend me his naturehike for this trip now, it’ll be nice to test a bag out and get a feel to see what I would actually want from a bag before spending!
Very specific question time: can anyone make a suggestion of a (side) sleeping mat that isn't some variation on "I'm stuck on a mountain please rescue me" orange/yellow?
Context: various sensory issues that I've yet to properly codify mean that I find bright colours stressful in a lot situations - a good example is the panic attack I had in a particularly aggressively yellow Canadian discount supermarket. Anyway, all the excellent Exped etc options I've seen recommended on here tend to be the exact sort of bright that causes me problems.
So, any suggestions for muted/army green sleeping mats that have a decent R-value (looking to camp in the winter) and would be thick enough for side sleeping? Pack size and weight aren't a huge issue as it'll be carried in either a pannier or a big dry bag.. The Thermarest Trail Pro is the best I've come up with so far. I'm currently using a crappy Karrimor Z Lite knockoff that cost me £8, so anything would be an upgrade. Cheers!
