Imagine the time and money I could save
We all do that by following Dammit's threads ;-)

Please don't mention that in here, we just don't know if the curse can transmit from thread to thread.

It's ok, I won't say the M word...

no thru-axle but I can live with that.
Yeah it’s no biggie ime. Been using a kona dew that I fitted drop bars etc to for years and no worries. Except the disc tab on the p2 forks is too close to the hub but that’s not the QRs fault.

Is this an issue with all p2 forks or just a defect on your forks?

So I'll be able to get this build started on Monday.
I need:
44/46cm flared drop bars
27.2 seat post ideally silver thomson
A silver Thomson stem to match about 100mm maybe 90mm
Headset is fucked so maybe a silver Chris King 1" 1/8
700c 36-47c tyres, whatever cool tan walls you have?
Never owned a Brooks saddle so contemplating it
If you have any of the above give me a shout please.
I'll start the build as is but starting think about having the frame powder coated in is close a match as possible to the current sparkly number. Not sure how likely this is.
Would also like to keep the kona and sutra branding. Where's the best place to get some decals made up?

It’s just these ones, have had a few that didn’t have this issue. May swap it for something else, possibly a surly fork of some kind but having filed a mm or two off the IS->PM adapter it’s working ok for now.
Your build plan sounds solid.
Edit: here’s my kona dew, in no way fancy at all - just a commuter.

I really like that colour! One of the 2021 sutras has sort of copper colour that I fancy.
This reminds me I need to get some racks and mudguards. Hoping to look like some free spirited bike packer posting scenic insta shots out in the hills. In reality its just the gravel paths 10 mins from my house and I'll only use the bike twice a year to cycle to Waitrose.

Thinking about having the frame powder coated. There's a place in Glasgow but they probably don't do fancy colours or I will see about having it done at cyclone in stockport if I can ship it to them.
Its just the clear coat that was looking really tatty. So in the interim I've sanded it down and about to do a very DIY job at putting on a new clear coat.
How bad can it be?

21hrs. No updates.
That bad huh?

Ha!
The glossy clear coat dried in looking distinctively non-glossy... A bit bumpy looking. I've got no idea what I'm doing though, some bits dried in very smooth and shiny but others didn't. I don't really understand what variables to control to get a uniform finish. I'm blaming the brand of clear coat.
So I sanded it all down again for another attempt today.
But it's a sort of pointless exercise as I've found a couple of options to have it powder coated. Just wanted it nice and shiney in the interim. The wheels I've got earmarked for this are supposed to arrive today so should be able to get it mocked up

Well I made a complete cunt of the clear coat again.
Had an issue with the wheelset intended for this build too so now looking for another wheelset. On the plus side I filled a gap in my tool collection. Headset cup removal tool and crown race seating tool.
Had always taken frames to lbs for headset cup removal. Very satisfying doing it myself.
Heading to powder coaters with the frame now and hopeful I'll get something close to what I want.

You should just sack this all off and buy a Stigmata no?
What’s the colour plan then?
-
• #116
buy a Stigmata
It would complete the stable...
But I need something more grounded. Something that doesn't scream "s-works wanker" or "look at the dickhead with three santa cruz's"
Colour wise I wanted something very close to the current colour. Went to the powder coaters today, they didn't have a lot of choice and the chap was pretty blunt.
I ended up settling with a metallic sparkly red thats a lot brighter than what I had in mind.If I don't like how it turns out I'll start looking for a Stigmata.

"s-works wanker"
I see what you did there. 😑

Haha deep down we both know it 😂
Even when I'm out on the Tarmac and see another s-works I cant help think it -

Sutra build has been on and off a million times. Was going to sell it but have since seen sense.
It’s came back from the powder coaters in a sparkly candy apple red. It’s not exactly what I wanted but I actually quite like it. Reminds me of the electric red Rockshox Boxxers from early 2000’s.I think the build is going to go in a different direction now.
Currently thinking riser bars, single speed, biggest tyres I can fit and probably a rack on the front so I can go buy milk in style.
I’ve just bought some Stooge Scrambler bars. 70mm rise and twenty odd degrees of sweep.
I have stans ztr rims but they are white.
Can rims be powder coated? Would they warp in the oven? If not I think I’ll rattle can them.Chris king headset about to be pressed in from @M_V and hope adapters from @yetidamo will let me see what the white rim looks like on…
I need to source some Kona decals for the frame. I’d been thinking chrome mirror effect would be alright then wondered if gold would suit the red?
Gold maybe a bit too far though.Any recommendations for where to get the Kona sutra decals appreciated.

Few new bits arrived today for other builds on the very near horizon.
I’ve bought some really pointless upgrades over the years but I think these take the biscuit.
Ti king cages frighteningly heavy by comparison. -
