  • Or get a 20" gym fan for less than half the money

  • plus 1 Vacmaster air mover
They have a new version with remote too, should be easy enough to find a 10% off code

    edit: TRAINERROAD10

  • buy 3 pack vacmaster

good in heatwave as a fan

  • Am in same quandary. The Suito looks far less bulky when folded...

  • I can't get a turbo at home (no space, noise in a 1st floor flat, etc) but luckily my local gym has a few Wattbike Pro bikes and they can do BlueTooth to Zwift on my phone. No ERG mode sadly.

Main problem is there are no real air flow. The gym is relatively cool but I still become a sweaty mess from halfway through a 30-40 minute session. I'm currently 5 weeks in to the 'Back to fitness' Zwift plan as they're all 30-40 minutes. I don't think I could take anything longer.

Have ordered a https://www.jmldirect.com/chillmax-go-fan-360-powerful-portable-cordless-fan?aid=6620&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIoMq14b7e8QIVCLTtCh1I4AamEAQYAyABEgIUh_D_BwE#93=30 to give a go next time I'm in there. Rechargeable and can clip on to the Wattbike to try and help keep me cool.

  • Have you asked the gym if they’d be ok with that? Just thinking out loud re: indoors & covid

  • Although I’m probably overestimating the airflow it can produce 😄

  • You didn't mention a width. I've no idea if this is even close to what you're asking:

  • Yes, the increased airflow over me could be a concern regards Covid however the mitigating factors are:
    a) The gym areas are big and sparsely populated. According to the booking system it has space for 55 people but the most I've seen in the whole place is 8.
    b) The area where the Wattbikes are (a separate 10m x 10m room) rarely has anyone else in it
    c) The few that do come in it I don't think give a shit about Covid, they don't wipe down the machines before or after use like the signs suggest

But, yes you're right, "It's easier to seek forgiveness than ask permission" is probably not the right track to take on this one.

Although I’m probably overestimating the airflow it can produce

Any airflow will be better than none.

  • Mine just arrived, it look tidy and has a small footprint once folded up.

My only issue now is the cassette, I have a spare 11-28 cassette I was going to use, but wonder if I'll run a cropper with my chain as it's set to work with the 11-34 cassette on the bike. Any thoughts on if I'll run into any issues?

I suspect not. If you use ERG, almost certainly not, find a gear that keeps the chain straight and go. Was using my 11 speed bike on a 10 speed casette with ERG for a long time.

  • Sounds good, will only matter when doing the FTP test, but then I'm not likely to be in the small gear for that so should be solid.
Will work on setting it all up tonight and getting on Zwift.

  • You will have (34-28) ÷ 4 = 1.5 excess chain links. That's unlikely to cause a problem even on a moving bike. It'll just be slightly baggy in small-small.

  • Derailleur will be a bit too far from the cassette, but should work

  • Thanks, that's reassuring.

While I wait for my cassette to arrive, any tips for sessions to get started to build up my base after I do the FTP test? I've not ridden in a couple of months and completely off on my fitness, probably max time is 60-90minutes 2-3 evenings per week. What's a good resource online for sessions?

Did TrainerRoad but found it boring, so figured if I had a sheet with instructions I could set a time while having a movie on in the background

  • Just got myself a lifeline tt-02 fluid trainer - life getting in the way of normal riding and still want to take part in "events" with pals when they happen so needs must.

I live in an old top-floor flat so wasn't pleased with the noise but will try and insulate the unit and vibrations a bit.

Found the resistance to be a bit low so cranked up the position of the roller a bit. Will try more air in the tyre tonight and maybe a little more pressure too.

  • I usually do trainerroad and watch TV or races for boring below FTP sessions. But with this weather isn't easier to just go out for whatever time you can afford and ride at endurance?

  • https://whatsonzwift.com/ has all of the Zwift training plans and individual workouts.

    Training plans: https://whatsonzwift.com/workouts#zwift-plans

If you input an FTP value it will give you specific Watt values for each section, then you just have to follow them.

  • That would be the ideal scenario, but with two kids and living in central London, 9ts not feasible at the moment.

@Greenbank cheers for that, I'll have a look.

  • I’m also confined to barracks with a newborn so I’ve not done a ride outside since May.

In general I don’t particularly like zwift as a training tool (I use my own interval sessions and think that the game element often tempts people to ride too hard on easy days) but I’ve actually found it pretty engaging for easy pace rides. Rather than getting drawn into racing all over the place I select a rolling course and try my best to maintain my target easy power (50-55%ftp) as the turbo is busily adjusting the resistance based on the in game terrain.

  • Took this tyre off because it looked about ready to let go...

Put a new (old) tyre on, only for it to do this after an hour...

So, I've now nicked the other tyre off the Tarmac and will see how that goes.

Got loads of spare tyres but they're all too wide for the Shiv, these Pro Optimums I used to race 24hrs on are all I've got left in 25mm other than brand new race tyres.

  • I thought you had a direct drive trainer now?

  • Or are you somehow doing that to the front tyre O_o
