• I didn’t take it as negative at all. I have been riding clipless (and clips and straps before that) for the last 15 or so years, so it’s nice to ride on flat pedals for a change.

I’ve been riding in Vans “fixie” shoes I bought years ago. Apparently they have a stiffer sole. It all comes around to fixed gears.

  • That's good.
Foot retention is currently the only thing holding me back (I realize the irony in this) from riding a fixed gear - that and having to build up the bike, ha!

  • Easiest option (both to get used to, and to avoid need for cycling shoes etc) would be flats with some straps a la restrap etc. Just go for it.

Clips and straps and some nice vintage track pedals would also be easy and allow for trainers, just you might be more restricted in trainer/shoe choice due to needing slimmer/low profile ones.
