• Very specific question time: can anyone make a suggestion of a (side) sleeping mat that isn't some variation on "I'm stuck on a mountain please rescue me" orange/yellow?

Context: various sensory issues that I've yet to properly codify mean that I find bright colours stressful in a lot situations - a good example is the panic attack I had in a particularly aggressively yellow Canadian discount supermarket. Anyway, all the excellent Exped etc options I've seen recommended on here tend to be the exact sort of bright that causes me problems.

So, any suggestions for muted/army green sleeping mats that have a decent R-value (looking to camp in the winter) and would be thick enough for side sleeping? Pack size and weight aren't a huge issue as it'll be carried in either a pannier or a big dry bag.. The Thermarest Trail Pro is the best I've come up with so far. I'm currently using a crappy Karrimor Z Lite knockoff that cost me £8, so anything would be an upgrade. Cheers!

  • Thermarest neo air superlight is grey. I side sleep on ghe yellow one

Or xthem is grey and see you want winter. https://www.thermarest.com/ie/sleeping-pads/fast-and-light/neoair-xtherm-sleeping-pad/neoair-xtherm.html

  • I've a mountain equipment helium 3.8 which is a medium/pale green colour. Could be worth a look. I side sleep in real beds, can't recall how I've slept on the mat though unfortunately

  • Have a look at the alpkit stuff most of it is muted green and greys, cant speak for any of their insulated pads (they dont do any specific winter ones), but i use their cloud base which is 5cm thick but not insulated. I absolutely love it and its great for side sleeping. Also kudos to alpkit to being a nice sustainable and environmentally friendly brand

  • the sea to summit etherlight xt are grey and are said to be the most comfortable pad for side sleepers.

  • Could you use an eye mask or do the issues happen before you reach sleeping point, ie. setup?

I think my Alpkit one is mostly grey.
