  • If you like the guitar, I’d be hugely grateful if you’d consider voting for me in the public vote, which you can do by going here and clicking on the heart icon (there’s no registration or anything)

Can't see the heart icon - has the public vote ended?

  • Say £120 posted?

Will include a replacement saddle as I sanded the original for a lower action.

    (Ignore the messy background!)

  • Yeah, finished yesterday, I think. I don’t think I got through to the last 10, but I wasn’t expecting to anyway.

  • I think the interview sections are filmed at George Harrison's Friar Park with it's curious interior decor going from the Queen Mum's sitting room to student digs. Very odd!

  • I watched that earlier today and thought exactly the same thing, not too pricey either... I'm sure postage will be terrifying...

  • ngl, was not expecting yer man to bust out some peak bloozdad there.

    sounds great. how much tho?

  • 400 ozllars, not sure how many of your lizquids that is...

Only $40 shipping, not bad... Tempting...

  • oof that isn't peanuts. it does a lot tho.

get one joe, if you don't like it i'll Richie it off your hands.

  • in other guitar chat news, i had my first lesson last friday.

    i done learned:

1 - i bend like a cunt which is why it sounds shitty 9/10
2 - i need to stop thinking like a bass player trying to keep a rhythm ticking over by playing all the beats on a bar
    3- i want to be a country chicken-picker

  • I really don't need any more fuzz pedals, tho', innit... Richie should deffo get one...

  • I have a fuzz pedal - I bought the one I borrowed and thought I broke...

  • I Def need practice more than pedals

  • My first setup was a Columbus Les Paul Custom copy, a 50w Eurotec (?) solid state amp and no-name £10 fuzz pedal, all from Polymart on Clapham High Street... I just made funny noises and pissed about with two and three note riffs and two finger power chords until things came together naturally... Great way to start, it sounded terrible!!

  • Been bunking off and dicking around with my early ZZ Top obsession. DONT JUDGE ME

  • Just ordered some 9.5 gauge strings to try. I've played 10s for ever but recently been experimenting with 9s which I actually really like for some stuff. Got them on the Tele and they're great for bending. The fact that they make me play a bit more gently is good as well. My tendency to compensate for lack of talent by bashing too hard is tempered a bit by the lighter strings forcing me to ease up.

Pretty sure the SG came with 10s and feels great as is, but I would like to try something lighter to see how it plays. I reckon 9s would feel too flappy so i'm i'm gonna try the mid point with some DR 9.5s from Strings Direct.

  • ZZ Top stuff sounds great!

I’m going the other way with strings. Always played 8s or 9s, but I’ve started putting 10s on my 25.5” guitars, and thinking about 11s for my 24.75”. I’m not bothered with debates about sustain or toan, but I find they help me control my bends better and are more forgiving of my general hamfistedness. I admire your decision to push yourself by going the other way, but I lack the self discipline.

Extra string-chat: I recently tried some of the EB Cobalt Slinkies. They sound great, and (might??) give the extra output and clarity they claim, but probably not worth twice the price of a standard packet.

  • Heh, that's weird. I've never bought into that fat strings = fat tone thing. If you put 12s on a strat and you can barely play the thing, your tone is gonna be pants. Best tone is whatever you're most comfortable with. Comfortable being a subjective tone as I understand some folks like more fight back than others.

  • There’s a YouTube video where they debunk the arguments about thicker strings=moar sustains. Completely agree, you get the best sound from whatever feels best.

  • I've pretty much completed guitar youtube at this point so fairly sure i've seen a few of them. Can't imagine wanting to go lighter than 9s to be honest

  • That's fun! Nice groove, touch of the Black Crowes too.

I tried 9s a little while back, they're definitely handy for more rocky, pinch harmonic stuff. Went back to 10s on the Tele as I preferred the feel under the fingers.

I've almost lost my 20yr death-grip on the neck...trying to learn a bit of chord melody stuff is what cracked it for me. I wish I had lessons years ago!

  • It's the plectrum psyching-yourself-out thing again isn't it…

I have forever played full-scale Fenders with Ernie Ball Hybrid Slinky, which are like 9s on the top and 10s on the wound strings: 9-11-16-26-36-46. It still feels right on my hybrid/offset Tele, but the Tele-Tele is starting to feel like it wants something beefier. Might try the Power Slinky (11-14-18-28-38-48) or Mega Slinky (10.5-13.5-17.5-28-38-48) and if they're too much drop down to regular 10s.

  • Apropos of nothing, I'd not heard of this chap before. Beautiful arrangement if you like this sort of thing....Chris Whiteman

  • Not quite the right place for it but I recently did a little live demo of a Kipling poem, one dynamic mic and one of those cheap Recording Kings that everyone bought about a year back, and I'm agog at how great it sounds. Like the performance is super scrappy (I only wrote the chords the day before) but having a nice sounding room, nice sounding mic, and a decent audio interface, plus proper monitoring to be able to EQ right, it makes such a huge difference. I can't wait to make another proper record.

  • I've been neglecting my guitars a bit in favour of this recently...

Having a great time at it but bloody hell there are some serious muscle deficiencies which have reared their heads, turns out being able to tap your toes in time doesn't translate to mad kick drum skills...

In proper business though I'm toying with the idea of picking up a used Peavey 6505 212 Combo after binging heavily on Deafheaven recently...

Also... those new Deafheaven tracks are the big surprise of the year for me, I love Deafheaven but I think this could be the album that really cracks the mainstream for them in a good way!
