I got a quote to gold plate a Smiths Everest watch to a super high standard a few years ago.

I object to this. A Smihs Everest costs less than half the price of a stock build Dolan Pre Cursa. Hardly a golf club statement purchase.

Then again nobody tries to gold plate their track bikes on here so maybe it's a good point.

A bicycle is essential; a wristwatch mere frippery. You can't compare the two. Nor their n+1 tendencies. Obviously.
