  • Is it garlic pulling time???

Quite a few of my bulbs were starting to open, so I lifted the lot. Ideally would have liked a good week of sun first but also wanted to transplant some aubergines into the space.

  • Brush the dirt off, plait the stems and hang somewhere cool/dark/dry.

Thanks! Can I quiz you on the confit garlic again? Is it better to use dried or fresh garlic for the confit?

  • I’ve always done it with dried (as in, dried after pulling from the ground - what I’d call ‘fresh’ if I bought it in a shop)

  • Lovely Foxgloves - heres mine ...

I'm curious about that wooden stump.

  • Nice Garlic 😎

  • Those foxgloves look great, the wooden stump was a left over from a photo shoot and as I can never throw wood away it’s now an insect hotel

  • Any flower seeds I can be throwing around the edges of the plot now for a bit of colour over winter?

  • Thanks again, Giles. Currently have most of it hanging in the bike shed.

  • Haul today. Happy with plot at the moment off about 4hrs per week.

  • I harvested some leeks tonight and a significant portion of them were rock solid. This really ruined creamy leek time

  • If they flower they go woody, probably that?

  • So need to harvest before flower? They did produce a bun but I snapped that off. I just need to make a note of when I plant something followed by an alert when it’s ready.

  • Iirc the flower stem grows up the centre and is woody, need to get it early. I plant my leeks out to grow over winter and it is the warmer weather that prompts flowers. Best to scoff them before then but they can be left in ground don't need picking all at once.

  • It was me being thick. I thought it was flower as in once the flower has flowered. Not starts to develop a flower.

  • New bed in today. Carrots and onions. I transferred some perpetual spinach from another bed.

  • Ooooooo very interesting.

I think our tomatoes are going to be good this year. Much foliage cut off today.

  • What variety? Not got any fruit on mine yet. Plenty of flowers, though,

  • Midnight snack

  • Thanks. Noted for future reference.

  • Likewise- always on the hunt for ways to make my plot more goth

  • We did indigo roses ones last year which were great too!

  • We got goth toms, peppers and chillis this year.
Gonna head over shortly and try and put a full days work in.

  • Been a good year for the garlic in southeast London
