Yep, the tb3 was the reason I got it. I have 2 X 48TB RAIDs but they're thunderbolt 2 so I use a converter (Gtech ev studio). They're very loud and a bit long in the tooth so I largely use them just for backups and work/play from the local drive.
In time I want to replace with a single 96TB SSD RAID striped to RAID 10 I guess? Should last me 5 years+. But an OTP one would be ££££££ if such a thing even exists (the largest SSD version of my Gtech is 32TB for about £15k!) and not sure what bits I'd need for a home made job. Nor am I sure about reliability. So thinking of just buying a bit of time with more local space to save me plugging in the things and having to put on ear defenders.
Nice board. Your pcie lanes are constrained by your MB and your CPU. The 3090 won’t affect performance of your other slots unless you exceed the capability of your cpu.
But that’s a lorra cash for 8tb. Your board also supports thunderbolt 3, would a Raid direct attached storage over TB be better value? You could throw some fast SSDs in a box for less money.
