• Yeah wise advice. I think ill get the first week or 2 past and then work on these things once he's settled a bit. Trying to pick my battles and not fight them all at once, which will be a disaster.

  • There's a good facebook group called "Dog Training Advice and Support" that's run by some pro trainers and has loads of resources. They're very much positive reinforcement only and their method for crate sleeping is if the dog is whining sleep next to them and build it up as they get more used to being in the crate and doing crate training so they see it as a positive place.

  • The puppy book we used sounds similar in approach to this. (Can’t remember the name - I offered it up on this thread a while back though). He was all about positive reinforcement.

With the crate, his approach was to make it a place where treats can always be found and where dog can retreat to if it wants some time out (this was a big thing for us, having 2 young kids - if Odie is in his crate, he’s out of bounds)

  • thanks, I don't have FB but can get wife to join. Yes, I am all for the positive. Yesterday I got in the crate with him for 10min and just played. It's just going to take time. His bed is in there and his toys, so it's 'his' space.

    Said crate
