I've not heard of this before
It's just a word I invented to describe what happens when more than one person goes for a tag and one of them posts it up first. It's based on the estate agent expression 'to gazump' (whose origin in itself seems to be unexplained, but may come from Yiddish).
and I don't think it's ever been done in Brighton. But there seems to be a classic example on the current page (1031) of Bicycle Tag of Bike:-
I wouldn't call that a classic example; the classic one is people posting only their picture of the old tag to show how they've been 'zumped. It happens on good weather days and with easy/easy-ish tags.
The size and velocity of the London game is quite astounding. A somewhat different beast to our own BBT.
Well, the size of London is quite astounding, and we've been playing for ten years. I think the Brighton and Edinburgh threads are the best ones outside of London. As you say, it's a very fun game, and that of course expands its potential for longevity. I can recommend following the Edinburgh game. All the other ones I've found are a bit dead at the moment. Interestingly, it's not played much in larger cities like Birmingham or Glasgow.
I really appreciate your interest in the regional bike tags, as well as London. For me, bike tag is simply the best game I've ever played!
Ha. I still enjoy it lots, including looking at the tags in other cities.
