I feel for Carapaz today. He could see that Pogacar was isolated so gambled that he could get away. It was a well timed, savvy move. What he couldn't control was which teams, if any, decided to try and get him back and, once again, Movistar get involved in a GC race that they shouldn't be bothered with.
I have no love for Movistar, but it is reasonable to think that Mas is in a battle for a podium place with Carapaz, so isn't that why they were riding?
