Are you supposed to be able to pack that in a bike pack or similar?!

Great so now Gravel is trademarked?
What do we need to start calling it, pebbles? Very small stones? -

I can't fit all of those into the thread title
-
• #19985
Might make room for 'smut' though
-

Maybe "bikes for road surfaces with varying sizes of stone who are not MTB's"?
Edit: I do kind of like the idea of a smut bike, would make the need for specific gravel bike pron thread redundant

macadam
That is one of the few words I proudly learned while touring in Bosnia years ago, spelled "makadam" there.
Could only say two sentences really:
- asfalt o makadam? (tarmac or gravel?)
- ene kava dva pivo hvala (one coffee two beers thanks)
- asfalt o makadam? (tarmac or gravel?)

But macadam is short for tarmacadam, which is tarmac, otherwise known as asphalt.

Not quite; macadam is the 18th-c. invention of Mr Macadam, viz. a carefully laid roadbed of different grades of crushed stone: larger stones as a foundation layer, and smaller stones on top. This could be laid on surfaces other than bedrock, drained well, and stood up to the passage of vehicles; tarmac was a later invention, which sprayed tar on top as a binder to keep dust down. Modern asphalt lays the aggregate and tar in one.

I look forward to when this cutting edge technology reaches Norfolk

Found some time to ride my GM, it ain’t fast but it’s fun. The shifting isn’t perfect with the tanpan, either ticking in 11 or lagging into 1. Not sure if this is just the way it is or if I need to fold the cable tighter or something. Regardless, perfect bridleway bandit.

Needs an American disaster infomercial, and that funny geezer in the sportswear using a ziplock bag and shrugging.
