There seems to be this low level disparagement of the UCI/ASO and their governance of this race and the other grand tours and Iām wondering what have they done or not done in terms of rider and spectator safety during racing that has created this?
I'm not saying "there should have been barriers on that particular stretch". But.
Look at the Tour of Poland crash and what happened to Fabio Jakobsen.
The UCI blamed Groenewegen and he became a scapegoat, but the barriers should never have gone down like that. Both the UCI and ASO try to find people to blame for their own failings.
There is a belief in much of the pro peloton that rider safety is not enough of a priority, so you have to see this within that picture.

Indurain was also the best in the mountains and the time trials. He didn't go for wins when he didn't need them but he was never really dropped. I remember him gifting mountain wins to Tony Rominger on two consecutive days.
There's also Armstrong.
They might have been able to do both for the same reason too. -

For me Pogacar easily beating KĆ¼ng does raise some alarm bells.
Maybe there's a secret lab in Slovenia and he's the first of the gene dopers.
You aren't doping if you're born with it.

Pogacar is the latest in a long line of riders who could win both time trials and mountain stages: Coppi, Bobet, Merckx, Hinault, Lemond, Indurain, Armstrong, Froome etc.
The Tour is invariably won by a time triallist who can climb.

Why isn't Merlier going for these sprint stages given he's obviously in form? And 2 sprinters in a team seems a sub-optimal selection from my armchair.
