Such an epic unsupported ride yo.

Did I say epic

They are supposed to need to be able to see the sky so I expect it wouldn't be great in a pocket.
Usual place is to zip tie it on top of your tail bag. I've always managed to put it there, even when carrying a bottle of water there as well.

"the Rapha filming crew with him"
"Kim English will adjust that riding time for today and will then need to spend a few hours re-planning the campsites for the next few days."

To be fair, he has to provide WADA with his address each night in case of a random drug test.
-
• #4607
What's that got to do with it? If I can ride TCR and book a hotel each night then he can do this "unsupported" ride and log his WADA location.

I guess also his profile and the fact that the route he's following is likely to be fairly busy means that it might be a safety concern if he were just to bivvy wherever he fell.
Obviously if he was actually in a race, the claim of being 'unsupported' would be contested, but he's doing it for charity, and unsupported in this context means no team car.

You can't just make up a new definition of a word.

I'm a bit confused about the Lachlan "hate". There have been other races with a film crew (Lael in TD) but they don't interfere. Lachlan finds his own sleeping spots as far as I can see, often just bivvy next to the road. The adjusting for the riding times each day is for the film crew if I'm not mistaken.
So what is not unsupported here? -

I'm a bit confused about the Lachlan "hate". no one is hating on lachlan
There have been other races with a film crew (Lael in TD) but they don't interfere. Yes they do
Lachlan finds his own sleeping spots as far as I can see, often just bivvy next to the road. campsites
The adjusting for the riding times each day is for the film crew if I'm not mistaken.
So what is not unsupported here? The film crew, the person making his route, the dotwatchers giving him food... so much is
The issue isn't with him, he's a pawn in the game of EF/Rapha/Cannondale marketing, who've devided to market this as solo and unsupported/assisted. I feel for him. He is just out having fun and won't have claimed it to be either. The issue is their need to epic-asize a genuinely cool thing, to sell their shiity rhetoric of epiczzz.

unsubscribe. someone dm when safe to come back.

Read a little about Lachlan's ride and there was something a bit forced about it. I'm sure it will make a cool film. Guess that's the payoff to working with brands who currently want to be positioned as outsiders.

Pan Celtic Race on Sunday. Sneaking suspicion there will be a fair few DNF before the Quantocks.

I’m not sure that dictionary definition is at all helpful in fact quite the opposite.
Personally don’t see any harm in what he is doing or how it’s defined.

I always liked the idea of Ferries this seems bland in comparison

Sneaking suspicion there will be a fair few DNF’s mid Dartmoor

I'd agree. The problem with these hair shirt arguments is that they generally just descend into silliness over their own interpretation.
Everyone seems to have differing opinions on what "unsupported" means:-
For some it would rule out hotels.
For some it would rule out motels.
For some it would rule out campsites.
For some it would rule out restaurants.
etc. -
• #4620
For me it rules out saddles.
-
• #4621
What about pedals and handlebars?
-
• #4622
I was trying to be optimistic or kind, the descents don't lend themselves to recovery, (narrow, high sided twisting lanes), besides the route doesn't go over Dartmoor.
-
• #4623
Also, depending on the time people are on the road between Lamorna and Treen, it may well be gridlock with traffic heading towards Porthcurno.
-
• #4624
They're not supporting you, you are actively steering / pedaling.

About 30 years ago me and a mate used to do a (Cambridgeshire) hilly 30 mile circuit without saddles/seatposts every fortnight or so. That was a hell of a workout for the legs. No sitting on the top-tube either.
Reminds me of the "Slow Motion" Zwift workouts where you grind out intervals of 6 minutes at 70% FTP, 4 minutes at 90% FTP and 3 minutes at 110% FTP all at 55 rpm.
Ha, I mean it's not possible but if it would work inside a jersey ok that be ideal.
