I don’t know, depends whether someone is at fault for the injury caused or if it was an accident? How far down the line in a racing accident do you look to see who was the one who started the chain of dominoes?
What did they do in rallying? Which is a sport that had similar issues. I remember spectators being injured/killed during events not sure if the families sued the organisers, or the drivers? Or if they even sued at all!

What about the spectators who were off the road but crashed in to during other incidents. Should they sue the riders or organisers or bodies?
Financial compensation might be appropriate but as stated before I think it’s an ugly first reaction.
