  • I’ve been grinding through some shit/random old beans I had in the back of the cupboard to break the new grinder in after my first cup was a bit lack lustre (had a decent layer of sludge on top) and read that it usually takes about a kg of beans to take the really sharp edges off the burrs, and after that the fines should decrease. First cup wasn’t exactly bright.

A slightly related question is, should I rinse the grounds if I want to use them in compost? Caffeine not being great, or am I overthinking it?

  • Everyone I know just dumps the used stuff in, their gardens don’t seem to suffer for it.

  • Recent research (can't find it right now, sorry) suggests that coffee grounds should be composted first, they can inhibit growth and be harmful to worms if dumped straight onto soil.
