How can the commentators all not see Caleb's front wheel clearly being swiped by Merlier's rear?

I wondered too, not sure if Merlier is to blame though? Some swerving when launching a sprint is to be expected?

I think they’ll be fine. I was in Pontivy a couple of years ago and they are big, wide roads through the middle of town.

I think he somehow avoided it by sliding on his left leg and let the shoe take most of road rush while his arse was on lower part of Ewan’s bike. Monster upper body strength to keep holding on his bike.

It was right on the apex of that curve to the right and Merlier was taking the shortest route

I think Ewan ran into Merlier's rear tyre.

Most of the carnage happened well before Pontivy. The crash in the sprint was Ewan's error.

This. No way is Merlier at fault here.

Who was the Bahrain guy on the floor in the pile up?… . He looked completely unresponsive when the race doctors were surrounding him. Really hope he’s ok.

Don't know who it was but there was a shot where you saw his hand go to his face (when he was on his back) and a very brief shot where he was sitting up and chatting with the doctors. Looked nasty so fingers crossed for the guy.

I just watched, he was sat up by the time they panned away.

That was terrible to watch. Looked like he was out. Hope he is OK
