The good ones apply so much force that the crimp fitting can actually liquify under pressure and effectively solder itself to the join
This appeals to my interests

I believe “slice” is a Golfing term the opposite of “hook” I’m actually in a meeting with a member of The China Fleet Club https://www.china-fleet.co.uk/in Plymouth I’ll ask him what they mean in a bit.

I don't think the £5k ones do anything better or different than the £500 ones tbh. The more expensive ones have just been tested against standards. Its more about ticking boxes for specified standards and consistency than anything else.
As somebody who flies on passenger jets, I find it quite comforting that this level of safety goes into something as simple as joining two wires together.
You'll be pleased to know that all the ones used on trains have the same specification and are tested yearly for just the reasons you mention.

The term posh crimpers gives me the mental image of a gold and bejeweled crimper.
A quality set of crimpers make a quality low resistance joint, which is essential.
So I'm say no to being golf worthy.

The Caddie Did It.
As someone who lives near where planes fly, I agree.
