  • Also I dont think I can live without the cough illegal cough throttle on the Bafang, so fucking useful at anti-cycling infrastructure like ladywell spiral bridge and many others.

  • Yeah fitted delimiter to ebike we have. Just sensible.

  • my motor is just underpowered, 350w so even with full throttle I cant even achieve 20mph, the walk assist on Bosch is laughably weak in comparison.

  • So which motor does a cargo #buyer need?

  • Urban Arrow with Zee brakes is the one IMO, no better value.

Cube maybe but cant see their accessories anywhere.

  • But which motor? The bosch cargo?

  • zee comes with cargo gen 4

  • 100% when fully loaded, I use the throttle just to assist starting from the lights, just a tap to stop wobble

  • UA spec those bikes with Magura brakes now I think.

  • ladywell spiral bridge

Quite fun to defeat this with an Urban arrow XL :)

  • Never felt the need for a throttle with the Bosch cx / cargo motors. Start from stop in an easy gear and it’s plenty powerful enough to get you going without any wobbling around -even when fully loaded.

  • Are folk fiddling with their motors not worried about voiding the warranty?

  • Bafang warranty?
I reckon they know what everyone is doing with their kit. Whether they honour warranties is another thing I guess.

  • Right. Talk to me.
    Tern or bicicapace?

And do I go steps or fit my own ?

  • Trying to sort tests out, but aesthetic of the bicicapace is winning. (Plus I think it'll fit in my shed)

  • Shimano can't really tell unless an aftermarket 'map' has been left on it when returned to them.
Bosch defo know on all of them now, not impossible to 'map', but certainly harder and bye bye warranty AFAIK.

  • UA are big beasts, weight isn't an issue for riding, only when your having to move it around by hand. Best value in terms of a full bike good to go, but weight can be a factor for some users and handling/seat position also an issue for some.

  • Having ridden a Bullitt a lot in the past and just started a job riding a UA, can confirm this. The UA is great, it rides fine once you're moving but it's an absolute fucking tank.

  • Yeah I guess answer is to ride this and an alternative electric one. However it seems the UA family is just laoded with bolt on accessories and looks slick. Where as bullitt doesn't look so slick for them.

  • Based on personal experience, I would recommend looking at the price of replacement batteries before getting involved with a specific brand.

For the mainstream brands, you would not have much change out of £600 - and that was pre-Brexit.

  • Also I’d consider which brands have good after care on their ebike parts, and worth considering which bikes shops nearby will take care of potential issues for you.

  • Thanks Max, I'll watch that tomorrow

  • my motor is just underpowered, 350w so even with full throttle I cant even achieve 20mph, the walk assist on Bosch is laughably weak in comparison.

I thought the legal maximum continuous power is 250W for electric power assisted cycles (BS EN 15194) cutting out when 25 kmh (15.5mph) is reached.

  • This is correct. I think @amey is just saying that despite the legal limit, on his cargo bike it feels underpowered.

  • AIUi anything with a throttle that goes over 5mph is illegal (unless licensed). With the exception of those rental e scooters that are now allowed (but still cut out at 15mph ish)

So you have to pedal, and the power has to cut out at 15/16mph. And there are watt / torque limitations as you’ve mentioned
