Even with overshoes, you are going to get wet shoes eventually, and they won't dry whilst camping. Much better to have a system for still being able to wear wet shoes comfortably.
We didn't pack waterproof socks recently on a wild camp on Dartmoor (what were we thinking), so resorted to using our 'pack-it-out' bags as liners. Girlfriend was much happier with putting wet shoes back on, and her feet stayed dry and importantly warm.
