  • I’ve always fancied some painted ti and when this came up a few months back in my size I couldn’t resist

  • TVR style flip paint looks great in the sunshine (and not bad in regular British weather) but stem was too short (luckily a longer colour matched Thomson was included) and gearing was crazy large with a 54t big ring, living in Herefordshire with the hills that had to change.

  • So I swapped out bars, stem, post, saddle, tyres and groupset and then left it sitting forlornly, waiting for cables and tape…..

  • Today I dealt with cables (ok, they still need trimming) and this is where I’ve got to

  • Looking good!

  • Today’s dilemma - what colour bar tape

  • TVR style flip paint

    How does that paint work?

  • No idea but one of the paint experts on here will know

  • Black bar tape. Very nice bike.

  • Thanks and yes, black is what I’m thinking, in fact not really sure there is a choice to make

  • Ok, so reused some black tape to see how it ties the bike together, looks like it works but I do have some daring purple cork or even purple splash but that might be a step too far.

Not completely convinced on bar angle, that I’ve got the hoods level (even with markings on the bar 🤦‍♂️) and think I’ve cut one bit of brake outer an inch or so short of ideal but figure best thing is to ride and fiddle from there

  • Hard to tell without side on view, but I'd say levers up a bit.

  • Went for a quick spin, rides really well but you’re absolutely right that levers too low, have adjusted and happier now.

Also fitted longer brake outer for rear as was definitely too short, fine margins involved but thankfully the brake cable remained just long enough

  • Really enjoying this on sunny day, paint really comes alive!

Tape a bit tatty though so needs to be refreshed - black works but I’ve got the idea that neon yellow would clash in a pleasing way but the nagging thought that it would in reality be a hot mess…..

  • This is really good looking, and it's great that the included colour-matched stem is the right length.

At the moment the understated bar tape allows the frame to 'luminesce'. I'm not sure about yellow tape, which might detract from this effect.

  • Awesome paint!

  • I think you make a good point about the neon yellow being overkill, paint is the star so let it shine!

  • A couple of photos that show the changing paint colour

  • Epic!

  • Beautiful

  • Seriously hoedown they make paint do that? I remember seeing it for the first time in the early 90’s on Nissans and some Rovers I was absolutely gobsmacked. You don’t see as much of it as I expected we would.

Great frameset Ted, black bar tape all the way.
