Loosely associated tangent in passing, had a terrible experience with Saffron despite their pretty bikes which might make you happy with your resulting decision
They offered free bike servicing to NHS at the start of the pandemic (appreciated)
I was a medic drafted into working in ITU/Nightingale (before it was mothballed - I ended up working in ITU and with the ambulance service for a year, and burning myself out)
I was told I wasn't NHS and hung up on
I had a mechanical failure en route to hospital a week later and had a bad crashLost a bit of faith in the community after that, what seemed like a good act on their part ended up lip service - I messaged them afterwards but got ghosted unsurprisingly

Oh no, I'm really sorry to hear your story and I hope you are fully recovered now with no serious injuries. I'm fairly happy so far, I think in the end Andy, David and I clicked, I guessed because they got intrigued by my ideas so the all conversation was more on the friendly side rather than the professional and cold like Saffron which was one of the things that put me off the most.

Yeah sorry for the derailing rant, I'm all good now but indeed Saffron were cold - but good to hear it worked out on your side too, it's useful to see another trawl through London's overwhelming selection of plucky framebuilders

Hey, no need to apologise, I know it was a well meant rant so don't worry and yes, I really liked them as well as they way they managed to keep the lights running even during lockdown, that was a remarkable achievement in my humble opinion.

Another update for the build... I'm so excited, I can't wait to see the final product.
[Pictures had to be redacted sorry about that for privacy reasons]

Very nice! What kind of paintjob will you go for?

I still have to decide I have two ideas which are sort of complete opposites. One would be to replicate the colour scheme of my car or go for a more retro white BMW motorsport... not sure. The idea of obviously matching my car theme is nice, but I equally like the idea for my bicycle to be bright in colour for added visibility.

In my experience matte black on a bike gets damaged and ugly really quick.
Retro bmw sounds like a better plan

I could always wrap it in xpel like I did with my car, or whichever is the equivalent for bicycles, if it's not silly expensive... but I definitely see your point. I asked spoon to provide both colour scheme versions and I will then decide what to do; I guess that after two white bicycles I also want a change, however they shown me a colnago with a very nice retro cream white colour that was quite wow... as usual I'll keep you posted here in the thread with any update.

Ok time for an update. The frame came back all assembled and put together and it's now going through polishing. I'm personally impressed by the welding quality.

Thanks, I'm really looking forward to see it coming all together. It will be a very interesting build.
Me too, when they said they still had access to a set I couldn't say no.
