Looking good - nice mix of flowers and veg.
Do you have a tennis court over the hedge ? :)

Cheers and Lol! Cheap balls (oo-er) of the internets make the tussle between cane and nets a breeze.

It’s felt a bit like that this year. Everything has either been eaten, or not really got going , except mares tale and bind weed which are of course thriving. It’s been hard going.
Think I have garlic, potatoes and about 2 sweetcorn plants left. Gonna do some triage this weekend, and make a plan of attack. At least the strawberries at home in the garden have signs of life!

Deer have munched our sweet corn :(
We lost almost everything in the first year, was really annoying. What’s eating what? Can you net / cover stuff? -

We lost a couple of lettuces when we looked the other day. Didn’t have time to drop by over the weekend so assume the rain has bought the slugs out in force.
I see a lot of nets/fruit cages around our site and on here. Are there particular crops that def do/don’t want to be netted?
Just thinking about construction projects for next year. -

We’ve netted our salad stuff, carrots and brassicas, but that doesn’t stop slugs as they’re in the soil burrowing about
-

Broad beans, peas, all the cabbages get the net. Slugs have been notable by their absence this year, no?

Brassicas def do - pigeons will strip the leaves of a whole crop down to skeletons within a day or two.

Presume this was what happened to us. They are netted but had left it off for 48hrs after weeding. Gah.

Just thinking about construction projects for next year.
and I was just thinking about all the time, effort and money I've spent devising and building effective crop protection :(
One thing to consider is apart from keeping things out is being able to get in to tend and harvest the crops . It can be a pain getting all the protection off and then back on again just for a bit of broccoli in February.

My perpetual spinach has gone crazy. Do I just cut it back?

Brush the dirt off, plait the stems and hang somewhere cool/dark/dry.

In laws came, saw, approved.
Rain this week has done wonders for everything. Really want to push on with the last of the landscaping next week. -

I planted mine in the same bed as the leeks. But they’ve disappeared.
Quick scoot around, things are coming on
